Under Stewart’s Directive, FCC Releases Recommended Three-Digit Suicide Prevention Hotline

Today, The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released “988” as the recommended three-digit dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This comes as a result of Rep. Chris Stewart’s National Suicide Hotline Improvement Act, which became law last year, that called for a study to determine the best three-digit dialing code for the lifeline.

Following the release of the FCC’s report, Congressman Stewart issued the following statement:

“Utahns have faced the tragic effects of suicide at some of the highest rates in the nation. Today’s announcement by the FCC is another important step to provide critical resources to address mental health and suicide in our state and country. This will save lives.”  - Rep. Chris Stewart
