Congressman Chris Stewart to Join House Budget Committee

Remains a Member of the Appropriations Committee and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence

Washington, DC, January 24, 2019

Today, Congressman Stewart announces that he will serve on the House Committee on the Budget.

I am grateful for the trust my colleagues have placed in me to serve as the Appropriations designee on the Budget Committee. I look forward to tackling some of our Nation’s most pressing issues-spending and ballooning debt.”

About the Committee:

The Budget Committee was created to allow Congress to develop an independent means to analyze the Presidential budget, reconcile it with Congressional plans, and develop a fiscal policy of its own.

The Committee’s chief responsibility is to draft an annual concurrent resolution that provides a Congressional framework for spending and revenue levels, the federal surplus or deficit, and public debt.

“One of the primary reasons I ran for Congress was to address Washington’s spending problem. As I have said many times, our national debt and spending is currently one of the greatest threats to our national security. We must address this issue now and save future generations from onerous debt.”

In addition to Congressman Stewart’s new Budget Committee assignment, he will remain on the powerful Appropriations Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence.
