Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah), released the following statement regarding the debt ceiling negotiations:

“I’ve always expressed my strong preference that any increase of the debt ceiling be coupled with spending and entitlement reforms that will balance our budget and allow us to begin paying down the debt," Stewart said. "Our national debt is approaching $17 trillion—we simply can’t keep spending money that we don’t have. House Republicans are meeting with the President today to discuss the debt ceiling, and I hope this will open the door for negotiations. Many of us may have different policy and political preferences, but we can all agree that our country needs to find long term solutions to our debt and spending problems.”
