The Stewart Standard-- Weekly Congressional Update

Dear Friends, Last week was a productive week in Washington, beginning with a bi-partisan meeting of freshman Members of Congress, where we discussed our economy and the country’s growing deficit. It’s refreshing to see some bi-partisan work in Congress and I hope that we can continue to work together to tackle the critical issues facing our nation. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, I participated in the second congressional hearing on the Boston Bombings. We were honored to have several witnesses testify, including former New York City Mayor Guliani, about how to prevent future terrorist attacks. Click on the picture below to see me question the witnesses: Our office has received numerous phones calls and emails on the subject of immigration reform. While the Senate recently passed an immigration reform bill, it’s important to remember that the House is a separate body within Congress. It would be irresponsible for the House to simply pass the Senate bill without doing our due-diligence and representing the will of our constituents. The Founding Father’s designed a process that required legislation to pass through both the House and the Senate. I believe most of my colleagues in the House, including myself, want to see some form of immigration reform happen, but it needs to be done right. That takes some time, and our approach will be different than the Senate’s. Following last week’s Republican Conference meeting on immigration, I discussed my views on immigration reform on the Rod Arquette Show. You can listen to the full interview on our youtube channel. The Week Ahead: This week the House is expected to vote and debate on the following legislation. Visit the House Majority Leader’s website for the most up-to-date information.
Stay Connected: For me to better represent you in Congress, I hope that you will stay connected to my office. Follow me on Facebook, where I regularly post updates and give you a forum to voice your opinion.Click here to see a full list of the legislation I am sponsoring or co-sponsoring. You can also view many of my House floor speeches and interviews where I discuss the work of Congress on my youtube channel. As always, feel free to email me if you have any concerns our comments. All the Best,
