Rep. Stewart Appointed to Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government

WASHINGTON— Today, Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) was appointed by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. This panel will operate under the House Judiciary Committee to investigate various abuses by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Justice, and other Federal Government agencies.

“The nation needs – and the American people deserve – a government that is accountable to the People,” said Rep. Stewart. “This subcommittee will work tirelessly to ensure that accountability. Government agencies, including the Department of Justice, have overstepped in recent years, abusing their power to silence or intimidate certain citizens. We will evaluate those powers granted by Congress and establish safeguards that protect all Americans, regardless of their race, religion or ideological beliefs.

“This is not the first time our Government has exploited its power at the expense of the People it serves. And in the past, Congress came together on a bipartisan basis to build guardrails that protected We, the People. Today, the awesome powers of our Government have once again been turned inward, toward the American people. And Congress is once again uniting – both Democrats and Republicans with one agenda – to rebuild those guardrails and regain the trust of our citizenry.”
