This year, Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) secured critical funding for Utah through his role on the House Committee on Appropriations. This committee – comprised of 33 Democrats and 26 Republicans – is responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities to keep the United States safe, strong, and moving forward.

“It is a great responsibility to serve on such a powerful committee,” said Rep. Stewart. “Utah hasn’t had an appropriator in Congress for more than 40 years, and it’s my honor to ensure our great state’s projects and priorities are funded. It’s also never been more important to control the purse strings of our federal government, and I will continue fighting to do just that.

“President Biden continues to recklessly spend taxpayer money, and Americans continue to suffer the consequences of record-high inflation – especially those who can least afford it. Progressive economic policies are crushing low-wage workers, and it’s our committee’s duty to change course. We need to start sensibly allocating funds that create jobs, grow our economy, keep our country safe, and build for the future. I’m proud to have secured that funding for Utah, and I look forward to doing the same next year.”

Below are notable requests that were included in FY22 appropriations.

• Department of the Interior: $50 million for the Central Utah Project Completion Account.
• Department of Energy: $67 million for Non-Defense Environmental Cleanup Moab Project. 
• City of Centerville: $1.5 million for the Green Steel Tank replacement project.
• City of Ephraim: $3 million for a drinking water resiliency project.
• Bureau of Land Management: $46.3 million for the Wild Horse and Burro Management program.
• Bureau of Indian Affairs: $75.8 million for Indian Land and Water Claims Settlements, including the Navajo-Utah settlement.
• Department of Transportation: $4 million for the Ephraim Road Safety & Economic Development Project.
• Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: $114 million for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
• Health Resources and Services Administration: $400 million for Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education.
• Health Resources and Services Administration: $869 million for the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant.
• Rural Housing Service: $32 million in Mutual and Self-Help Grants.
• Office of National Drug Control: $110 million for Drug Free Communities Program.
