Congressman Stewart Responds to the State of the Union Address

Jan 12, 2016
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – After President Obama delivered his final State of the Union address, Congressman Chris Stewart (R-Utah) released the following statement:

"Unfortunately, the president missed a real opportunity tonight. In his final State of the Union address, we heard much of the same big ideas; ripe with the liberal talking points we have heard in previous years. In an era of real national concern, we expect more than big ideas from our President. We need results.”

“The President should have provided realistic solutions to the things I routinely hear about from Utahns: our national security, federal agency overreach, and our country’s rising debt.

“America must maintain its leading role in the world with a strong national defense. We need to make real improvements in how we are combatting global terrorism and facing the other global threats to our nation. We need government agencies to get out of the way, become less intrusive and empower individuals to succeed. And finally, we need to get control of our debt and spending so we can get on a path towards fiscal sanity.”
